Hello! My name is Amanda Schmaeling and I am a junior here at Marist College. Originally I am from Long Island, NY where I grew up playing on the sandy north-shore beaches with my three sisters and taking care of our adorable yellow lab, Holly. Currently I am a Communications major with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Fashion Merchandising. So far I have been loving my time here at Marist and all the great courses and professors I have encountered. Last semester I studied abroad in Florence, Italy, where I had the unique opportunity to explore the amazing Italian culture while continuing my course curriculum. When I graduate college I hope to work in New York City at a Public Relations firm or the Communications department of a fashion company doing PR, marketing, or even advertising. Meanwhile, in my free time, I like to keep very busy. I am a member of multiple clubs on campus including Zumba, yoga, and the dance ensemble. I enjoy volunteering with the Habitat for Humanity organization as well as the Campus Ministry club. Along with those, I am the PanHellenic officer of the Epsilon Upsilon chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma and the Public Relations Coordinator of the Silver Needle Runway fashion show. I also work in the Academic Affairs office located in the Marist College Hancock Center, and to add one more thing to my plate, I just started interning with the Hudson River Valley Institute.
This leads me to my excitement about this new position as a Social Media coordinator for the HRVI. I am very much looking forward to working with this organization to uphold its professional reputation as well as help the organization upgrade into the 21st century with new forms of social media and marketing. I am hoping that this internship will allow me to expand my knowledge of PR related functions such as social media tactics and grow from my experiences as both a mentor and learner. I look forward to all the great things that lay ahead this semester and cannot wait to see what this new year will have in store!
